Synopsis

Luke Walker and his secret society are ready to stick up for animals, even though if it means getting into trouble. This book of the Luke Walker series covers chapters 17 to 24 and takes the reader through the funny, and courageous adventures of four school kids, headed by Luke Walker. 

The first chapter talks about cognitive dissonance, A psychological condition in which one holds two conflicting beliefs on a single topic, which results in turning a deaf ear to what is generally right. Non-vegetarians may have pets, but considering their food choices seem hard. Luke Walker, being so small a boy, finds this difficult to grasp.

The fun-filled stories continue as the children attempt to find aliens, send letters to cruel organisations and try to persuade their school to stop supporting animal testing.

Things get a bit tricky when people start viewing our young animal activists as, ‘insensitive’. But after all, it’s part of the job!

The best thing about this book is, that it is not magical. Seldom in real life do we get solutions to our problems very quickly. Animal activism is a large cycle. You have to aware more and more people, and not get too desperate to reach the final goal. Of peace. Never in this whole book were Luke Walker and his friends entirely successful. When they tried to save chickens of a farm, they could not save all. Restaurants didn’t pay heed to their pleas. But, they were successful in enlightening people. Be it at school, or on the streets.

I noticed that the author tried to incorporate accents in the words. I have noticed something similar in the books of Mark Twain. Luke walker pronounces words like, ‘exactly’ as ‘ezzactly’. It was real fun reading his little mispronunciations. Just emphasises the fact that our animal activist is so young!

And… this book has got some pretty useful knowledge, for example, names of medical organisations which don’t support animal testing. Funding their researches will directly help our four-legged friends!

I was looking forward to more graphics in this book. After all, they are the essence of Violet’s Vegan Stories! But. nevertheless, there were some awesome illustrations

Luke Walker has got some unthinkable ideas which he plans to put into action. All through the book, he maintains his calm, as his best friend Joe keeps on worrying. 

I would recommend to this book to people out there who have a taste for funny, comical adventures. Adventures with a moral. Do check it out! So long!
